Departed camp late and headed out on an “easy” ride. Touring the area on two track and 50” route’s. This video begins at nearly five pm. When we begin climbing a legit single trail. Of course the night I need my headlight a wire breaks and while it worked fine when we left. It failed when needed. Fortunately the other two rider’s had working headlights. About 8:30 pm with around six miles to ge...
Cairn’s and Blaze’s

My favorite riding is to explore new to me areas. Or Trails in an area I haven’t ridden. I love the challenge of navigating a Trail which is difficult to see. When you must rely on Cairn’s and Trail Blazes. Many rider’s hate the patience required to stay on the trail. They also make it more difficult to find the trail when they wander off searching for it. Laying a misleading track.

More and more difficult to find people to ride with. Too far, too hot, too cold, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays…simple, load my dirt bike in the truck and Go Ride!

Headed down… Different view’s and perspective. It’s very difficult to show how rugged and steep this area is on a POV camera.

A challenging trail to a lookout. More difficult with a chainsaw and stopping to buck and brush. Most difficult begins at 21:21.
Clearing Trail through Burn Scar’s

Riding with Matt, from Maine and Chuck Sun. We came upon three rider’s from Vancouver, Washington a short distance from the Trailhead. They had one small chainsaw. Extremely disappointed to witness the irresponsible antics of this large group. The three riders we met on the trail were part of. They created illegal tracks in the vicinity of their camp. And high banking road cuts. We are in the N...

Cleared the trail up to this Lookout. Packed my DJI Mavic Air 2 to get a few clips of the Lookout. Judging from the view’s I shouldn’t waste my time with a Drone. Likely get more views tossing Drone into trash can.
Another Trail to Clear

This first six miles of this trail required nearly 18 hour’s of volunteer labor to clear and brush.

As the snow melt’s, we are clearing higher elevation trail’s.
smart walking the questionable water crossings....I've seen many guys almost dump bikes deep in ID backcountry because they didn't want wet feet
That was quite the day!
amazing...but how do you ride with that boat anchor on the front...very impressive!!!
Headed to the featherville/atlanta area tomorrow. ITs going to be hot but looking forward to it
TVTMA has a volunteer trail project @Willow Creek Trailhead on Saturday, August 3, 2024. If you’re able to help.
@@OffRoadRider15f Dave, where can I get more info. We are coming up from your old stomping grounds. We were planning on a ds ride to stanley, challis, yankee fork, etc saturday but might change the trip around to help out for a few hours
tvtma.org/pages/willow-creek-trail-work-weekend Willow creek is a couple miles before you make the right into Baumgartner. It’s the road to the left. Right is Virginia Gulch TH.
Just curious how long it took you to make the summit and back to the trail head?
Not sure that is a relevant question? I had to buck and brush it on the way up.
Why isn’t it relevant? I know you had to clear brush, you mentioned that in the video. I know you buck the trail along the way, I watch all your videos. So again I ask, how long were you on this trail? Thanks
Arrived at the TH a few minutes past 9:00 am. And got back just before 3:00 pm.
Was going to ask if you were out there alone, but you answered that. Beautiful country.
Wish I could hear what you're saying.
Mumbling about where’s the trail, cairn, blaze, cut log…
Too many complaints about breathing when mic is located closer. Most don’t want to hear me.
@@OffRoadRider15f that's funny now I remember I used to be able to hear you. Well I guess you can't please everyone 🤷
Beautiful
Your riding area is amazing.
Looks like a fun one.
Was there any clutch left
Amen. I don’t even try. I like riding alone. But I have to do enough research to not get my self in a bad way, and stay prepared for most things.
Downhill can be worse than uphills 😂
Dave? did you go up that qnarly sucker? Kudos to you an man in his 60's, did you ever get that Spot of In Reach? Damn this is nuts!
Cleared it too…Challenging Trail to a Fire Lookout ruclips.net/video/Fjj-lBPHLuE/видео.html
No InReach or Spot.
Great views Dave. Ill get up to idaho at some point.
@OffRoadRider15f Is this trail still rideable by chance? I'll be nearby this weekend and was hoping to come up from the North / Salmon River approach.
I am thinking about moving up there from CO. Do you run plates on your 2 stroke? I saw your mirror.
I did on my 2017 KTM 300 XC. I do my best to avoid roads. Nice to have a plate at time’s.
@@OffRoadRider15f Thank you! I like plates. Your videos have been an inspiration to move. I like Colorado but have always been interested in Idaho after visiting,
Great video! Huge fan of Chuck, a local legend. Thanks for posting!
Your a soldier!! 🫡 🇺🇸
Epic trail...and hard enough without a huge chainsaw on your front end! Would love to hear more of your comments but unfortunately at least for me the sound of the bike drowns out your voice...maybe a mike or something would work?
@@BraaapoholicBob he actually has a mike but it sucks lol I'd like to hear what he's saying too.
I have a stereo Lavalier mic. When it’s close so one can clearly hear me. All I get is bitching about my breathing. Camera mic bitching about wind noise and one can’t hear me. Honestly I am ready to quit and have been for a few year’s. No one wants to ride with me. Inviting rider’s to join me each week, excuses. And the burden is always placed on me to invite again and again. I never get an invite. If I do, it’s to go clear trails. Meantime the trails I clear get tens of thousands of view’s for rider’s who never volunteer.
Dave, one possible reason few want to ride with you is fear you will lead them up a trail of similar difficulty.😜😜😜
That is no joke! Nice work...
Yeah that one looks difficult.
Beautiful country! Thanks for bringing us along
Chuck 😆25:05 never leave a guy behind
Thanks for bringing us along Dave! Nice almost forgotten trail there
Watched this while i was on the rower in my hot garage getting a workout in. Good stuff Dave!
The little wear and still downed trees, I sometimes wonder if you are the only rider up there enjoying these amazing trails. The are definitely open only because of your efforts
Good stuff Dave. Enjoy your trail riding vids. I need to come out and ride these areas again!
Thankfully you had extra energy leftover to push start your bike since you didn’t have to haul around that heavy kickstarter all day
Dang… and it’s sad the forest Circus just lets it be.. woods crap so no use but instead of thinning , slash pikes and re plant.. let it lay so there is even more down fuel for the next fire.
Well said!
What pain! I couldn't believe he just left you hahahahaha
Thank you for clearing the trail. Hopefully more people can come to this Lookout and enjoy the beautiful view.
Best show yet thank you
Thats got to be a beautiful ride.
What stihl saw are you using?
MS 261 carburetor version. Not filling the fuel tank helps a little. Still hard to start following fill up. Just not stupid hard. 50-100 pulls is ridiculous. By leaving a 1/4 gap or so, it will start in 20-25 pulls.
I have a 261 also, mine has the m tronic carburetor though, when i first bought mine i had a similar issue and it was the little summer/winter window next to the air cleaner was set to winter operation causing heat from the engine to overheat the carb and boil the fuel. Since i changed that its been flawless over probably a hundred hours of use, my favorite chainsaw i’ve had. Hopefully you can get yours figured out, all the ones i’ve been around have been really awesome saws. Thats a bummer they can’t make yours work for you. That would be frustrating
Looks like a great day Spent riding and Clearing Trail! Ty
Thank you for all your work to get that section open.
Very few people taking responsibility for their riding days, they dont even carry a handsaw. Here in the rio grande national forest a group of 4 "teenagers " called for a rescue when they ran into an area of deadfall, no saw , no skills , no experience, just a cell phone. I was grinding my teeth for a few days over that cause i dont think any lessons were learned other than have a charged phone battery. The workers will always be a small minority with sore backs. Cheers.
I agree that stihl saws suck. Was gonna get the echo. Curious if you heard and reviews on those. Supposed to be extremely light
I have an echo cs 361? 16” bar. Worked good for three seasons of heavy use. Way more fun to ride with a small saw. However, when one bucks as much as I do. The power of a bigger saw is way better.
Man .. got to love those dead lodge pile stands…
I remember when the downieville walt would only cut thos log to about 18 inches wide
great work as usual. We are headed to ride out of baumgartner to at the end of the month
Are those game trails? And tracks? Or riders who have cut the switch backs etc
It’s very difficult to get the Wildlife, Elk, Deer, Moose…to comply with Government Regulations.
Some of My faves 👍👍
Hero dirt after that storm last week. Thanks for the show and maintenance.
Lmao… the comment in first min about the FS 😂 I worked for them for 12 years as an OHV specialist.. finally left after building my last trail system. Being seen as a ride was an issue for them. So funny cause the FS is so so lazy and Is the definition of “ inefficient”
I got tired just watching you, and then I’m assuming you had to turn around and ride back out. You have a difficult balancing act, wanting to keep your trails semi-private but needing more guys to ride them just to keep the brush beat back.
Loop.
Why is all that lumber left to rot? Is it too eaten up to use for anything but firewood?
Environmental Nazis. No mills. Salvage logging tied up in court for year’s. Not sure Lodgepole Pine’s have any value, perhaps pulp?
@@OffRoadRider15f Seems it is ~never easy...
Excellent countryside, trail, and stewardship. Thank you!
1977 Trans AMA at Sears Point was my first pro motocross I went to. Still have some 8mm film of the race I need to break out and see if its still any good. Raced sears point several times in the late 70's, it was always one of my favorite tracks. Only time I got to see DeCoster race, that was cool. Next pro race I saw was 1978 hangtown, last year at Plymouth. First moto Hannah lapped everyone but Howerton. Glover won the 125.
